This was a bit of a surprise, but I was actually talking to my friend, Randall, about the new year. He was sitting on the floor and he was telling me about how his company had started a new research project that would allow them to gather the data they needed to help them determine the best new product for a new year.
Randall and I, like most people, have a hard time remembering the year. We each have a different calendar, and in our day-to-day lives we usually forget when certain people were born or how long ago it is. That’s actually kind of cool, because it means that we can all be in a place at the same time without having to worry about who’s in the bathroom.
What our research did was to take a look at a set of data and see if it was possible to put them all together, to find the ones that were most likely to be the best products for the new year. We did this by first finding the most popular brands. Then we took a look at the data from those brands and looked at how much each of them increased in popularity.
