A 3k is a distance you run on a track. It is the distance you are able to run a marathon in a single minute. To find out whether you are even running a 3k, the distance is multiplied by 3. If you are, you are only running 3k. If you are not, you are still running a 3k and you are just running farther.
The 3k distance is a very common training option. People run their best times at about 3k, and they then take their best times running at shorter distances. The 3k distance also allows you to run in a faster tempo. Running shorter distances means you don’t have to worry about keeping up with the other runners. Running at a faster pace means you can run farther.
I did this calculation by myself and I came up with that 3k is about 11 seconds per mile. On a good day you should be able to finish in about 2:08 hours.
My reasoning is that its more about the effort you put in on the training run than the actual distance. I’m sure there are more technical reasons, but my guess is that most people need to run about 3k to get some mileage in and also to be able to maintain their fitness (which is one reason you would want to train at a shorter pace).
As I mentioned on Twitter yesterday, I’m not sure there is much of a scientific study on how people “reach” 3k. However, there are a few studies that say that average endurance runners in the 2.5k class tend to run about 1.8k in a good day. So I’m thinking that you can be pretty close to 3k running a good day if you train at a pretty good pace.
It’s all about the distance you run, not how hard you’re training. I don’t know of any studies that indicate 3k is too hard, but it does have the caveat that when you’re training at pretty good pace you will be moving more than you are now.

3k isn’t too far either, if youre going to do it, but I do think you should be training pretty hard if you ever plan to run 3k. It can be a long way if you’re really ambitious.
I think 3k is still a long way away, but it does seem possible to get to it. That said, I think you can get to 3k pretty fast if you train too hard and never slow down. The last thing you want is to get into a bad habit of running too fast or being too hard while youre training. And if youre too slow, something will happen to your body that will cause you to slow down for a while.
This was one of the first things that I thought of when I read the article about 3k. I never tried 3k before, but after reading the article I decided to give it a shot. I went out and ran the distance in 1 hour, 5 minutes. I was surprised at how fast I got to 3k, but I was also really surprised to see how much I could run in one hour, as well as how far I could go with each run.
