Subaru is known to have a problem with turbo lag on certain occasions. Red-line is an indicator of this and causes a turbo lag that can last for several seconds, sometimes up to 15 seconds, before the turbo boost finally turns off. For this reason, Subaru has been known to replace the turbo boost switch on certain vehicles with a manual adjustment. It’s a good idea to do so, otherwise you’ll be fighting the turbo lag of an engine that still needs boost.
I have had a few issues with the turbo lag on my 2015 crosstrek, but not on the redline. The turbo lag is much quicker on the Redline than the turbo lag when the turbo boost switch is on. This is because the turbo boost switch is adjusted to a lower boost level.
